Momentum (Christ – centred, Spirit – empowered, Mission – focused)
Dave Hearn, President of the C&MA Canada
Recently, I spoke to a brand new teacher who is enthusiastic about her first teaching assignment.
She oversees a grade two class that is diverse and unique. At least half of her students come out of difficult experiences and are often confused, discouraged, and even traumatized.
The misbehaviour in her class is challenging to manage, so she decided to try an experiment to calm her students.
She introduced what she calls a “peaceful moment.”
She plays soft, instrumental Christian music in the background and has all of her students sit with their heads on their desks in complete silence.
She then walks by each student and touches their backs, pausing long enough to pray for God’s peace to come over them.
The change in her class has been dramatic.
Some students begin to cry when she prays for them, others become less agitated in their behaviour, and others have become more relaxed and attentive.
One student, who was completely out of control and seemingly unreachable, has been totally transformed.
Each day, the students specifically ask the teacher to not forget the “peaceful moment,” and they make sure that she touches their backs.
Somehow, there is an impartation of the presence and peace of God that radically touches each student.
In that moment, fear is gone, insecurity is arrested, trauma is quieted, and the presence of Jesus is set free to heal and restore.
This reminds me of Mark 10:16 “‘Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.’ And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them”, when Jesus blessed the children (Mark 10:15-16).
Could it be that God gives us the ability to impart His peace and presence wherever we go? Could it be that the Holy Spirit wants to so invade our lives, so saturate us with His presence and power that the spiritual atmosphere is impacted everywhere we go?
Who needs your touch today? Who needs to receive an impartation of peace and hope today?
I dare you to go and create some peaceful moments!
